Hello Firehawk Families-
This is Ms. Merlin with an important announcement. You should have received a letter about the Opportunity Scholarships as a result of our school grade and you will be receiving a letter with information about an extra 50 minutes of reading instruction per day for each 4th and 5th grader.
This extra time in reading instruction is mandated by state statute in schools where reading scores fall into the lowest 300 in the state and Calusa is one of those schools. Of course both the Opportunity Scholarship and the extra 50 minutes of instruction create many questions for our school community.
Our area superintendent, Mr. Todd Cluff, and I will be hosting a meeting for parents of 4th and 5th graders this Wednesday, July 27th at 6 PM in the Hawks NEST at Calusa Elementary. I encourage you to make an attempt to attend this meeting so that you can hear factual information in a personal forum. If you are unable to attend the meeting, you may call the school or email me. As a school, we realize that we have a year of hard work ahead and we look forward to partnering with you to show the state that Calusa is a school where learning is a priority.
